Community Involvement
Parent helpers
Parents can provide assistance in a variety of ways including listening to children read, coaching a team, helping in the canteen, covering books, providing specialized advice and so on. For a fuller list see below.
And remember, the most important ways that you can help the school are often the most obvious - getting your children to and from school on time, in appropriate dress and with the correct equipment; helping with homework; providing encouragement and maintaining good contact with your child's teacher. You don't need to be at the school every day to be a supportive parent.
The Library Resource Centre is a very busy place. People are using the area for most of each school day. Our volunteers help us to keep things running smoothly in many ways.
Volunteers can help us by:
- returning books and shelving
- supporting the Open Borrowing system
- scanning, sorting and shelving books
- covering new material in preparation for students
- repairing books
- leading a Book Discussion Group
If you are a member of the Arawang community and would like to help, please contact the school.
Parents and Citizens Association (P&C)
The P&C aims to promote the interests and objectives of the school by bringing parents, teachers and interested community members together. P&C funds support the school's educational program. The P&C meets monthly for business, educational and social evenings. Meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of each month (except during holidays) at 7.30 pm in the school Library Resource Centre. These meetings are small and informal, a good opportunity to meet the Principal and other parents, and keep up to date with what is happening in your school. The P&C is responsible for and always needs assistance with : the canteen, fundraising, clothing pool, music tutor scheme, school banking, and our bi-annual fete. To contact the P&C, leave a note in our 'pigeon hole' at the front office.
The School Board
The function of the School Board is to develop policies in such matters as curriculum development, management of finance and general conditions of school operation. The Board consists of three parent representatives, two teacher representatives, the principal and a representative of the Department. Meetings are held monthly and are open to all members of the school community. They are held on the same Mondays as the P&C meetings, at 5.30pm, in the Staff Room.
Ways that parents can be involved:
We encourage parent participation in programs such as reading, computing, and gross motor skills, as well as assisting with transport and help during excursions. We value parental contributions through the School Board, Parents and Citizens Associations, and the Canteen. The support of our community enriches the programs that we are able to offer to the children of Arawang.
